Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-L37S1 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

Amazon delivered this quality product at a great price. All the parts were included. Picture, sound and features are all excellent. Fits well in the living room entertainment center. Viewing angle is excellent. We mostly view staight on from about 10 feet. I have a very bright south facing room and the image in the daylight is fine.
Thought I might need to upgrade with a sound bar audio enhancement, but the audio is very good. Picture is of equal quality as my three year old 1080pm Sony 40 inch lcd. Audio is better than the Sony, but I have a home theater sound option for the Sony.

Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ80U 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ80U 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review
I originally bought the TH-50PZ80U 50-Inch model but 3 days after I got it mounted on my wall I heard a loud pop sound, the picture went black and the red light started flashing a code on the front. Plasma TVs consume a huge amount of power – I think the 50 inch was running around 750 Watts. I did some research and discovered that the power supplies and internal power switching are extremely sensitive to power fluxuations. I had a surge protector in place, but that was not enough to save it. Ya need something like a Monster A/V Power Center / Filter (MP PRO 3500) or I just bought an industrial APC power filter rated for 800 Watts and only plugged my TV into it. I recommend this model: “APC BR1500LCD 1500VA 865 Watts 8 Outlets BACK-UPS” and make sure you plug your TV into the plug that says “surge & battery backup” and not “surge only” – ya gotta have a filter to give a clean 60hz 110VAC out to your TV because your power from the power company is “dirty” and that can damage your TV.

Amazing color reproduction
The incredible black reproduction of a Panasonic High-Definition Plasma TV results in impressive contrast and beautiful, natural colors. So you’ll get warm, accurate skin tones, gorgeous greens, breathtaking blues and vivid reds. For color that’s as rich and bold as life itself, look to a Panasonic Plasma TV.
Consistent brightness from any angle
A Panasonic Plasma combines anti-glare and anti-reflection technology with the natural light-emitting properties of plasma, to give you a super-wide viewing range with a crisp, beautiful image from almost any angle.
Smooth, graceful motion
![]() |
When you’re watching sports or movies with fast-motion graphics, you want a TV that can keep up with the action. With over 900 lines of moving picture, self-illuminating plasma displays eliminate afterimages in fast-action scenes. So whether you’re watching a sporting event or an action-packed movie, you’ll always get the most impressive viewing experience possible. |
1,000,000:1 Contrast
![]() |
The Panasonic’s Real Black system (a pre-discharge suppression system) and improved panel production processes combine to reproduce outstanding blacks with superb contrast. Each image is richly expressive, from bright scense, like scorching desert landscapes, to dark cave scenes. Compare the image produced by conventional HDTV on the left to the Real Black image produced on the right |
More Colors
![]() |
Viera HDTVs support the xvYCC color profile (Extended YCC Colorimetry for Video Applications), or “x.v. color” for short. Standard RGB color space allows the display of a portion of the colors that are viewable to the human eye. The next generation “xvYCC” color space actually offers an available range of colors that exceeds what human eyes can recognize.
|
Deep Color
![]() |
Where x.v. color expands the available range of colors your HDTV can display, Deep Color increases the number of colors your HDTV can display within that range, for smoother transitions from color to color.
|
Connectivity
Viera flat panel HDTVs interact with an array of high-definition devices and services, making it easy for consumers to access and enjoy content as never before. As of 2008, Viera Link is compatible with Onkyo and Yamaha home theater systems.
| Videos and stills recorded on SD cards can easily be viewed via the SD slots on Panasonic Blu-Ray Disc players and Viera HDTVs. | Viera Link means easy connectivity via HDMI cables. Finally, consumers can easily operate their Blu-Ray Disc players, DVD recorders and home theater systems with a single remote control device. |

| 4 HDMI inputs to connect all of your devices directly to your television. | |
![]() |
Long Life
![]() |
Panasonic plasma panels are rated to last 100,000 hours, which is about 30 years of regular or 11 years of non-stop usage before the brightness of the display is halved. |
Get Full HD with Blu-Ray Disc Players
![]() |
A Panasonic 1080p plasma television is able to render 1920×1080 pixels, but standard DVDs have a resolution of just 720×480. Blu-ray discs output true 1080p High-Definition resolution and have a storage capacity ten times greater than standard DVDs, so no pixel gos to waste. |

Samsung LN40B530 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Samsung LN40B530 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I purchased this TV on a smokin’ hot deal from the Brick (buyer beware the Brick do not always allow returns) as we had a credit on account and needed to use it up we went ahead and purchased from the Brick. The Samsung LN40B530 is a second TV that goes in our bedroom. It was easy to hookup. I only had a cable box and a DVD player to plug in, both are HDMI so it was a snap.
I replaced the remote with a Sony Universal Remote which replaces the 3 remotes to run everything else. I love the Sound Mode, SRS, Picture Size and Picture Mode buttons on the remote and programed them onto the Universal Remote. P.MODE button changes the Picture Quality (PQ) in an instance, I love this feature as you can rotate through the different choices as quick as you can click your remote, the same is true of the other 3 buttons mentioned.
The picture is fantastic. My wife was amazed with the PQ. I have viewed the Samsung LN40B530 against other TVs with faster refresh rates and higher priced at the different box stores. Personally I feel the PQ is as good as other higher priced TVs with the faster refresh rates. If you are price concise, this TV is to be considered. One of the first things I noticed when I started watching this TV was the clarity and vibrant colors. I remember in the first day or two of getting the TV, I was watching a show, I don’t remember which one it was, but I remember thinking, look at the hair on the arms of that girl, that is how good the clarity is on this TV. The PQ is awesome. I love the rich vibrant colors.
One negative item, when ever I see a label of HD on a program, I assume it is 1080 however the signal may only be 720 or less. On my Sony all I have to do to check this out is hit my info button on the TV remote and it would display 1080 or 720 or whatever it may be, however with the Samsung it always shows 1080 even when watching non HD programs. I have scanned the manual and haven’t yet found where the correct info can be displayed. Personally if the PQ is not 1080 I would rather watch something else that is 1080.
If you can not differentiate the PQ of this TV from that of other TVs with faster refresh rates or if you watch little or no sports, don’t be taken in with all the hype of the faster refresh rates and buy this TV and you will do yourself a favour and save yourself 0s of dollars.

Samsung LNS1952D 19-Inch LCD HDTV Monitor Review

Don’t let the bad reviews for this TV on this site dissuade you from purchasing this beautiful TV. No, you’re not going to get a TV with an ATSC tuner for this low price. Samsung only puts those in the larger sets because smaller sets inherently have better pictures. I also have a 40″ Samsung with the ATSC tuner. Both beautiful TVs….
Despite the bad reviews on this site, I just bought a pair of these for my mother- and sister-in-law. They were so thrilled with the picture quality and sound, I am going to buy another one for my daughter.

Panasonic PT-50LC14 50″ Widescreen HD-Ready Television Review

We bought our Panasonic PT-50LC14 Sept. 30, 2004. According to the Service Menu, it has 10,019 hours of use, and has been turned on 2932 times. It’s been a great TV – we’ve had 0 problems. The original lamp is still going strong.
Panasonic PT-50LC14 50″ Widescreen HD-Ready Television Feature
- 50-inch, slim-body LCD projection TV with widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio; 55.7 x 35.3 x 15.3 inches (W x H x D)
- 1,280 x 720 native resolution; HD-ready with support for 480i, 480p, 720p, and full 1080i resolution
- Progressive Scan Doubling enhances standard interlaced signals and renders them in seamless, flicker-free 480p
- PCMCIA/SD Memory Card lets you view digital photo slideshows right on your big-screen TV
- 2-tuner picture-in-picture, 13 video inputs, including 1 HDMI digital-video input and 4 component-video inputs
Panasonic PT-50LC14 50″ Widescreen HD-Ready Television Overview
PT-50LC14 combines the brilliant, high-resolution picture quality of liquid crystal display technology with the capability to convey multiple digital media formats. Slim, sleek, and remarkably lightweight for displays of their size, this fully integrated, 16: 9 widescreen television is ready to display big-screen entertainment from blockbuster movies to the most visually demanding computer games. The model features SD Memory Card and PCMCIA card slots for viewing still picture images on the TV screen. The Photo Viewer feature allows the consumer to capture still photos from a digital camera, recorded onto an SD Memory Card, that can than easily be viewed as a slide show or in photo-album format.PT-50LC14 has PC display capability (VGA, SVGA, and XGA), and can also be used as large-screen computer monitor for other multimedia applications.
Panasonic PT-50LC14 50″ Widescreen HD-Ready Television Specifications
Panasonic’s PT-50LC14 practically writes the book on home-theater excitement. This high-definition liquid-crystal projection TV offers a perfectly flat, 50-inch display in a widescreen (16:9) dimension that’s perfect for viewing DVDs and DTV movies in their native aspect ratios. The set is equipped with a total of 13 separate inputs, including 4 component-video inputs, a HDMI digital video input for a direct-digital connection with a DTV set-top box, and 2 PC inputs capable of VGA, SVGA, or compressed XGA resolution (1 rear, 1 front). A handy PCMCIA/SD Memory Card slot lets you hook up your computer for viewing a digital photo slide show.
The set offers a native resolution of 1,280 x 720 alongside high, 400 cd/m2 brightness ensures vivid, exacting images from DVD players and other devices. What’s more, Panasonic’s Progressive Scan Doubler will upconvert standard interlaced (non-progressive) broadcast and auxiliary signals to flicker-free, 480p resolution.
The PT-50LC14 is considerably less bulky than most rear-projection televisions and consumes less energy. Further, LCD displays don’t suffer from misconvergence or flicker, like their CRT counterparts. The Panasonic multimedia display incorporates thin-film transistor (TFT) technology, also known as active matrix, to improve color reproduction, eliminate ghosting, and boost response speed.
Two-tuner picture-in-picture with split-screen display lets you view 2 programs at once by dividing the screen in half down the middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right.
Movie sources get their due with Panasonic’s 3:2 pulldown reversal feature, Progressive Cinema Scan. This enhancement compensates for motion artifacts that sometimes result from the telecine process that’s used to convert film’s 24-frames-per-second to an NTSC-friendly 60 frames per second. Other picture-enhancing features include horizontal and vertical edge correction and a motion-adaptive 3D Y/C digital comb filter, which eliminates “hanging dots” and color rainbow effects in closely spaced patterns.
The set’s 2-way stereo speakers are powered by 15 watts per channel, and BBE ViVA HD3D Sound makes sure every program sounds its fullest and liveliest.
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link the set with any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio–all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.
What’s in the Box
TV, remote control, remote batteries, and a user’s manual.

Pioneer PDP-5010FD 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

As other reviewers have already stated with plenty of supporting information, the picture quality of this set is fantastic, even if you’re watching an SD broadcast, and the sound from the detachable speaker bar is good enough to let you forgo, or at least put off, investing in a surround-sound system. What you may not know is that you can currently buy a PDP-5010fd from the Sam’s Club auction website for around 1.2K, (which the guy I bought mine RIGHT HERE ON AMAZON did immediately after he got my 2 grand), so factor that in to your buying decision.
If you are unlucky, you may get one with an annoying buzz of varying intensity that emanates from the back of the panel. My set is blissfully silent, but many plasma panels are not. If you get one with a more serious issue, and live near an authorized Pioneer warranty service provider, just have it repaired – that’s a lot cheaper than trying to ship one of these back at your own expense. Pioneer isn’t making these anymore, but they’ll still stand behind them for the 1-year warranty period.
I now own both a 60-inch Pioneer Plasma, and this 50-inch, and love both of them. If cost isn’t your primary concern, buy the PDP-6020FD instead; the picture quality of that one will bring tears of joy to your eyes. In any case, I’d rather buy the slightly over-the-hill Pioneer Kuro than a “cutting-edge” set from another maker any day. They ARE that good.

Outstanding Video Performance
With a screen as large as this, high resolution becomes more important because it is more possible to view each pixel from a distance. The PDP-5010FD is a native 1080p display, meaning it has a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the highest standard available. The black levels on plasma screens are generally superb and this unit is no exception, with blacks that are an intense, deep black and a picture that has very high contrast as a result.
The display features Pioneer’s new ASIC video processing and scaling, which upconverts standard definition and other video resolutions for viewing at 1080p. A variety of noise reduction circuitry ensures a distortion-free picture at all times. Users can manually adjust the color temperature, gamma, and the levels of noise reduction circuitry and filters to fine tune the picture to their exact specifications.
An optical light sensor automatically adjusts the picture for optimal viewing depending on the ambient light in the room, compensating for night and day and for the content of the video, such as sports, movies, or news. The PDP-5010FD also has a film mode that eliminates motion judder and provides smoother playback of film content.
The PDP-5010FD is capable of remembering six picture settings for various A/V selections, with Movie, Game, Standard, Dynamic, and Optimum modes, as well as a user-defined preset. You can also set one of five aspect ratio presets in case you’re watching standard-aspect 4:3 television. The television can also be set to auto-size when zooming is necessary.
Connections for all your Components
The PDP-5010FD has a large complement of inputs, including four independent HDMI 1.3 inputs (two with analog audio). Additionally, it has two component inputs, three composite inputs, and one S-Video input. There is a USB connection that can connect a storage drive for viewing of photos. A built-in CableCard slot enables the PDP-5010FD to work with cable services without an extra decoding box. An ATSC and two NTSC tuners are built in and fully integrated for use with picture-in-picture and picture-side-picture modes. The television has outputs for Dolby Digital/PCM, audio, subwoofer, SR+, and headphone. The TV Guide On-Screen programming guide is included as well.
Breathtaking Audio
The PDP-5010FD features a detachable bottom speaker with an integrated digital amplifier that improves the clarity and accuracy of the sound. The amplifier provides 17 watts of power for the two-way speakers and supports SRS WOW/FOCUS/TruBass surround sound.
The PDP-5010FD is backed by a 1-year limited warranty.
